The Supreme Court vote to preserve the Affordable Care Act (‘Obamacare’) is a triumph for the President, for right-thinking people and for all Americans who have the audacity not to be rich. To prove it, Justice Scalia doubled down on being one of the world’s most annoying people, writing a really nasty dissenting opinion (with Justices Thomas and Alito; shock, starts on page 27). Paul Krugman has a lovely summary of how well the act is working, and how awful that is for the Republicans.
John Roberts, appointed by George W Bush, has, against all expectations, proved to be a benign and wise Chief Justice. He overturned Hamdan vs. Rumsfeld for gods sake! Now he’s safeguarding healthcare and gay marriage. Way to go, Chief Justice Roberts! You’ve made America a better place.
